Alice It Isn’t Real

A one-woman exhibit by Tin Garcia

From the artist:

Real life has taken a surreal turn; it seemed only natural to create paintings that reflect the absurdity of the times. These works reference the symbolism of Alice in Wonderland, a book I’ve been devoted to for as long as I can remember. No other book can be richer in detail, and no other storybook heroine can remain as calm (or as curious) in the face of such strangeness.

I imagined these scenes through an Alice lens, as if to consciously not make sense of the senseless series of events happening in the country— and elsewhere in the world. I decided to add a sculptural element with the shaped canvases, if only to anchor these scenes to something familiar, comforting, and physical.
